When it comes to breakfast, nothing beats a hot plate filled with good old-fashioned pancakes, smothered in butter, and topped with maple syrup. But while these fluffy stacks of goodness taste like heaven, they are usually loaded with sugar and carbs, and low in nutrients and protein. Protein pancake mixes have completely changed this! They have taken the flavour and texture of the pancake we all love, and turned them into a healthier alternative. From high protein, to keto friendly, to gluten-free, there are a plethora of varieties out there! Now, the hardest part, is filtering through all the options and finding the cleanest, and tastiest choice!
Flourish pancakes NO NOT disappoint. When it comes to taste, price, texture, and ingredients, these take the cake... literally. One serving offers 24 grams of protein coming from whey protein, 0 grams of sugar, and 8 grams of fiber. This makes it an incredible option for those watching their sugar intake or trying to manage their blood sugar levels. They are also perfect for those looking for a super high protein pancake. This mix includes natural ingredients you can feel good about, and a taste that you’ll absolutely love! The top flavours are buttermilk, chocolate, and vanilla. They also come in plant-based chocolate and vanilla!
Flapjack pancakes take a very close second.. after the flourish of course. Each serving offers 20 grams of protein coming from whey isolate, and only 7 grams of sugar. They also contain 5 grams of fiber per serving. There are no artificial ingredients making it safe for a family friendly breakfast! Not only are these healthy, but they are soo tasty. The buttermilk flavour never disappoints.
Kodiak Pancakes have grown in popularity over the last several years. One serving offers 14 grams of protein coming from wheat protein isolate, and around 3 grams of added sugars. They also contain 5 grams of fiber per serving. They are super tasty, and the texture is A plus! I find the biggest drawback to be where they have sourced their protein. I would rather go with a whey isolate, or good old nuts and seeds! If I choose these, I love adding Schinoussa's Vanilla Whey Isolate (with added probiotics of course).
Best for those on Keto
Calling all my keto lovers! This one is for you. ANS is by far the tastiest keto pancake I have tried to date! Each serving provides 15 grams of fat, 1 gram of net carb, and 7 grams of protein making them perfect for those following the keto diet. Not only are these almond flour pancakes good for those on keto, but the macronutrient distribution is great for anyone that is just trying to find a healthier pancake swap! The ingredients are super clean. The blueberry and banana flavour are my favourites! The buttermilk is a classic too.
Bob’s Red Mill mix is perfect for those looking for a gluten-free pancake or waffle mix. It is low in calories, providing only 140 calories per serving. It is also low in sugar, containing only 4 grams of sugar per serving. The cool thing about this pancake, is you can dress it up with any proteins and fats you desire! It is a perfect versatile base, but only contains 2 grams of protein and 0 grams of fat. I love using this mix and adding an egg for protein, topping it with nuts and/or seeds, and drizzling over my favourite low sugar maple syrup.
